ONE DAY IN KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK

This one-day schedule for Kings Canyon National Park is meant to offer you a sample of some of its most stunning and well-known locations.

Open Google Maps on your computer or phone, select “Your Places” from the menu, then click Maps. This map will appear on your list.

9:00a.m or ealier:

  • Arrive at Grant Grove Village, and visit the Visitor Center (if it is already open):  Visit the visitor center to gather information, and check for trail updates. The visitor center offers exhibits and ranger-led programs that provide insights into the park’s geology and history.

9:00a.m-10:00a.m

  • Drive the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway:  Start the scenic drive along Highway 180 into the heart of Kings Canyon. This drive offers stunning views and takes about an hour each way without stops.

10:00a.m-11:00a.m

  • Zumwalt Meadow Trail: Go and hike the 1.5-mile out and back Zumwalt Meadow trail, which offers stunning views of the meadow, river, and surrounding granite cliffs.

11:00a.m-11:30a.m

  • Drive to and visit Roaring River Falls Trail:  Stop and stroll to the impressive Roaring River Falls, a short distance (0.3 miles total).

11:30a.m-12 noon

  • Drive to Grizzly Falls picnic area: Visit the waterfall.  If you pack a lunch, this is a great place to have a picnic.  If not, just visit the waterfall and move on to your next destination and have lunch later in Grant Grove Village.

12 noon-1:00 p.m (Optional)

  • Drive to Panoramic PointTake in sweeping vistas of the High Sierra. It’s a short stroll from the parking lot to the overlook.

1:00p.m-2:00 p.m

  • Drive to Grant Grove Village and get lunch there.

2:00 p.m-3:00 p.m

  • General Grant TreeTake a stroll around the paved, easy-to-navigate 0.3-mile loop track around the world’s second-largest tree, the General Grant Tree. It should take half an hour to an hour to complete.

3:00 p.m-Evening

  • Head back towards Grant Grove Village.  If you have time, consider having dinner at the Grant Grove Restaurant or you could make your way to your next destination.
