These are my favorite US destinations for January travel; categorized into warmer weather and winter wonderland . Let me know what you think!
*WARMER WEATHER*
DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, CALIFORNIA (PLUS LAS VEGAS, NEVADA)
Death Valley’s diverse range of landscapes makes it one of the most popular national parks. You may hike among vibrant hills, stroll the dunes, and visit North America’s lowest point. The winter months are perfect for spending all day outside, while the summer months are oppressively hot. You can always combine this trip with a visit to Las Vegas or make a day trip to Death Valley from Las Vegas. However, don’t forget to pack layers, since the sun sets and the temperature drops dramatically.
TUCSON, ARIZONA (PLUS SAGUARO NATIONAL PARK)
Without the oppressive heat of summer, January is a terrific time to see Tucson’s natural beauty and cultural diversity. Tucson has plenty to offer, whether your interests are in outdoor recreation, seeing cultural landmarks, or just taking in the lovely weather. Plus, you can go explore the famous Saguaro cactus-home of Saguaro National Park. Nature hikes and excursions are nice because of the chilly weather.
MIAMI FLORIDA (PLUS EVERGLADES, DRY TORTUGAS AND BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARKS)
Travel to Key West for warm weather and a laid-back vibe if you want to escape the winter blues. Discover the beaches, take part in water sports, enjoy the exciting nightlife and if you have more time, go visit the national parks
MAUI, HAWAII (PLUS HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK)
Without the crowds, take in Maui’s beauty. Beautiful beaches, hiking paths, and the picturesque Road to Hana are all worth exploring in January’s great weather.
PALM SPRING, CALIFORNIA (PLUS A VISIT TO JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK)
Palm Springs, which is well-known for its stunning desert landscape, has pleasant January temperatures, with highs in the 60s to 70s°F (15–26°C). Play golf, go hiking, unwind and maybe go venture Joshua Tree National Park, which is just around the corner.
*WINTER WONDERLAND*
BIG SKY, MONTANA (PLUS VISIT TO YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK)
With 5800 acres of skiable terrain and a 4350-foot vertical drop, Big Sky is referred to be The Biggest Skiing in America. Additionally, it’s a fantastic place to start exploring Yellowstone National Park in the winter.
ASPEN, COLORADO
In Aspen, January is the busiest month for skiing. The town is well-known for its top-notch ski areas, quaint environment, and winter celebrations. However, please take note that although it will be considerably less busy and hotel prices will be more reasonable now that school break is gone, prices will be higher and it will be more congested during major events.
VAIL, COLORADO
Another enchanted place in January is Vail. The snow is still fantastic, and the crowds are now smaller. Better vacation offers are available, and you may enjoy activities like dog sledding, spa days, and going skiing.
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK
Take in the wonders of New York City in the wintertime. Savor the holiday décor, Central Park ice skating, and the famous Times Square New Year’s Eve festivities.
BRECKENRIDGE, COLORADO
Breckenridge is renowned for its exceptional snowfall. Generally speaking, January is one of the best months of the winter, with lots of snow for snowboarding and skiing. Don’t miss the annual International Snow Sculpture Championships if you’re in the area in January. Huge slabs of snow are used by artists from all over the world to build elaborate sculptures.
